Many people presume that since the Hunting Act 2004 was introduced, the hunting of mammals has been stopped. Some hunts are listening to the law and drag hunting – but what about the others?
Hunts in the area have been witnessed continuing ‘as normal’ and breaching the ban. This includes chasing animals through the countryside with a pack of up to 30 hounds until the fox or hare gets exhausted and then ripped to pieces alive. If the quarry (hunting term for the chased animal) goes to ground in a den or hole the hunt’s terriermen will dig it out and throw it to the hounds.
So where are the police?
who knows? the truth is the police are more often than not, more interested in the sabs. Hunt sabs gather evidence of hunts breaking the law, and this is often forwarded to the police, however, up until now there has only been one Yorkshire court trial in connection with the ban which was brought about through a civil prosecution.
There has been progress made in other counties, with police forces raiding hunt kennels and gathering the relevent evidence of those involved in bloodsports who try to continue killing wildlife.
Hopefully in the future the police will either work along side us, or do our jobs for us. Until then we will keep on gathering our evidence, and saving lives.
‘THE BAN’
The ban has many loopholes, that hunts love to try and use to pretend their not hunting illegally. The language is rather confusing but for all you legals the link to the ban is below.
